How One Little Problem Changed My Life Forever (With The Help of NLP)...
So have you ever had a problem that you just couldn’t solve no matter how hard you tried?
Way back in April 2005 I had a problem just like that. I was horribly depressed, socially awkward, psychologists couldn’t help me, and psychiatrists thought I was crazy.
And it changed my life.
That may sound a bit weird because usually problems like that are a bad thing right? But that horrible problem caused me to look for something better in my life. It led me to explore possibilities I would have never considered had I been happy & “normal” right from the start.
(Now before you rush out and start looking for your own worst-case scenario problem, don’t bother. It is hell to go through something like that, and it is not even necessary)
But remember a couple weeks ago when I told you I had a funny story about how I finally figured out how to use the NLP formula?
Well I got into NLP in April 2005… and even though I had never thought about applying an intentional process to change my life before, I immediately saw that it was a fantastic opportunity.
After all, it helped people feel better about themselves, reach their goals, and had a long history of changing lives for the better.
So right then and there I decided that I would do whatever it took to learn NLP & apply it in my life. I only had one question – could I really do it?
The very same question that so many people are struggling with. Perhaps it is the question YOU are struggling with.
But here’s the rub – at the time that I was struggling with that question, I was learning all sorts of new ideas, I started focusing on the things that I wanted to create in my life – I started applying NLP techniques to clear my blocks on a daily basis.
Every day I would study NLP… I would work on whatever issues came up for me that day – I would feel better for a little while, sometimes even a few days but then I would focus on all sorts of reasons why my life wasn’t perfect.
Do you see where I am going here?
The Formula was working.. It was already having an impact on my life – and I was already applying NLP with great success to reach greater and greater goals.
But even with all that sitting in front of my face, it took me over a YEAR to see my error. I thought because I wasn’t getting 100% of what I wanted that it wasn’t working. In fact it was just working in ways I wasn’t expecting.
Yup. I was very slow to catch on.
But now that I am in the business of helping people change their lives, and helping them do it better, faster, and more effectively, I have realized that my story was pretty typical.
I talk to all kinds of people who are making amazing changes with NLP. They apply a technique and it relieves 25% or 50% of the problem. They get 25% or 50% closer to their goal. But then they convince themselves it’s not working.
In an upcoming issue we will go through some of the nuts and bolts exercises that you can do to stay on target even when what you try doesn’t (at first) get you the desired result. But for now I want to cover another really key factor to consider when you are creating the life you want for yourself with NLP.
The Influence Of Cultural Environment...
Let me tell you what I mean… the environment that you spend time in has a big influence on who you are and how you think.
If you are always interacting with unhappy & negative people, you do NOT have a supportive environment. You’ll need to work extra hard to make changes when everyone else believes that you can’t. However, if you interact with people & situations that really believe in your potential, then your community will be supporting you to change & grow in life.
Even the information you consume is adding to your daily environment. The fact that you’re reading this article means that you’re getting positive feedback today. I will only ever tell you that you can reach your dreams – and that is very good.
Everything that exists in your life is either encouraging you to grow, or holding you back.
For example, my intention in writing on nlpmonk.com is to inject positive energy into your life. I’m here to tell you that no matter what you’ve done, or who you are up until this point, I believe that your true potential is so much more than that. I believe that you are capable of far more than you can possibly imagine.
However, there are probably people in your life who will tell you the exact opposite. There are a lot of negative influences in the media, the workplace, or even (heaven forbid), your family.
A bit of an aside here – as you go about designing your perfect life (and there is NO reason why you shouldn’t be planning your life to be perfect!), this idea of “environment” is an important one.
If you have a goal or desire that feels really good to you… but everything in your life is telling you that you can’t have it, then you have problem. We will be looking at this idea of really designing the life you want in an upcoming issue of “NLP Online”
I am going to wrap this up now, but I did have one more thing to mention. If you could have a private conversation with me, what two questions would you like to ask me?
I still want to know what your questions are. I want to know what is unclear for you, and what are the really burning topics that you want to know about. So keep sending in the questions! Send them to me at info@nlpmonk.com
That's all for now, see you in the next issue of "NLP Online"...
